Somethings must be said. Today during my devotions, I read an unsettling and strange commentary on writing to the church of Corinth.
The passage was 2nd Corinthians 1:2.
“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
2 Corinthians 1:2-4 NASB
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,”
2 Corinthians 1:3 NIV
NOTE: The writing associates God with compassion, grace, peace, and ALL comfort.
The commentary states, "many think that when God comforts us, our troubles go away. (But if that were so, people would turn to God out of desire to relieve pain not out of love for him.")
Wait - what?.. I had to read it again. as if God holds out on us because He wants to be sure He has our love and devotion.... I think that statement is All wrong. At least from the Bible text and the life of Christ, who demonstrated great compassion for ALL of those who suffered. He healed ALL who came and THIS IS MY point!
God is a God who loves and comforts us! This is exactly why I love him. God is pure, full of light – peaceful – good – He brings me joy, healing and energy.
If we don't turn to him in pain, who do we turn to?
